GovStep — Government Jobs App

1. No Accounts, No Sign-Ups

GovStep does not use accounts, sign-ups, or logins. There is no profile to create, and nothing about your usage is tied to your name, phone number, or email. Your qualification, state, and other preferences are stored only on your device and are never transmitted to us.

2. Data We Collect

We do not collect, request, or store any personally identifiable information. There is no registration, no login, and no user profile stored on our servers.

3. Data That Stays On Your Device

To personalize which jobs are shown and to run practice tests, GovStep stores the following only on your phone. It is never uploaded, synced, or transmitted anywhere:

• The name you enter during setup (optional — used only to greet you inside the app)
• Your selected qualification, degree or course (for example BTech, BSc Nursing, GNM, B.Pharm), branch, 12th-class group, and (if applicable) teaching subject and B.Ed status
• Your selected state and job category preferences
• Your age and reservation category (if you choose to enter them) — used only on your phone to apply official age-limit relaxations when filtering jobs
• Your saved/bookmarked jobs and the jobs you mark as applied
• Downloaded practice tests, and your practice-test answers and scores
• Technical settings, such as when the job list was last downloaded and which version of it you have

All of these are optional. Uninstalling the app permanently deletes this data — we hold no copy of it.

Backup & restore: if you choose to export a backup, the app creates a file containing your applied and saved jobs and hands it to your phone's own share or save screen; you decide where it goes. Restoring reads a file you pick through the phone's system file picker. Neither step sends anything to us.

Sharing a job (from version 1.1.5): the Share button hands a short message — the job's title, organisation, last date and a link — to your phone's own share screen; you choose the app and the person. The link identifies only the job, never you, and nothing is sent to us when you share. When someone opens a shared link, the page on prajaslabs.com asks our server for that job's public title, organisation and last date to display them. If they then install GovStep from that page, Google Play tells the app — on their phone only — which job the link was for, so the app can open that job after setup; this is read once on the first launch and is not sent anywhere.

4. What Our Server Sees

The app only downloads information from our server: the public list of job notifications, occasional announcements, and practice tests. These requests contain nothing about you — not your name, profile, qualification, age, category, saved jobs or searches. A request for the job list includes only a note of which version of the list your phone already has, so that nothing is re-sent when the list has not changed. From app version 1.1.6, each request also carries the app's own version number (for example "17"), so that the server can leave out practice tests that your version of the app cannot show; it is the same number for everyone using that version and says nothing about you.

We do not log any activity against a user identity, because no user identity exists in our system. Standard technical connection information (such as IP address) is processed briefly by our server and its cloud hosting provider for routing and security, as with any internet service, is kept only in short-lived server logs, and is never linked to you personally.

5. Third-Party Services

GovStep does not integrate any advertising networks, analytics platforms, crash-reporting, or social login providers. "Apply" and "Notification" buttons open the official website or notification PDF in your browser; where no official link is available, the app can open the original page where the vacancy was published, and warns you first when that page is not a government website. An announcement banner in the app may also link to a web page. Once you leave the app, that website's own privacy policy applies, not ours.

6. Security

All communication between the app and our server uses HTTPS/TLS encryption. Because we do not collect personal data, there is no user account database that could be exposed in a security incident.

7. App Permissions

GovStep requests only the permissions it needs to function: internet access, to download the current job list and practice tests; permission to restart its about-once-a-day background refresh after your phone reboots, and to briefly keep the device awake while that refresh runs; and (from version 1.1.5) permission to ask Google Play, once on the first launch, whether the app was installed from a shared job link — Play answers only with the link's job, nothing about you. Versions before 1.1.5 also list a standard "vibration" permission that came with the app framework's default setup — GovStep never used it, it gives no access to any of your information, and it is removed from version 1.1.5. The app does not request access to your contacts, camera, microphone, photos or storage, location, SMS, or biometrics.

8. Children’s Privacy

GovStep is intended for job seekers. It collects no personal data from anyone, including children (persons under 18, as defined by India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023): everything a user enters stays on their own device.

9. Your Rights & Choices

• Change or clear preferences: update them anytime from the app's profile screen.
• Delete all local data: uninstall the app, or clear its storage/cache from your device settings.
• Access requests: since we hold no personal data on our servers, there is nothing for us to provide, correct, or delete on our end.

10. Changes to This Policy

If our data practices ever change, we will update this page and revise the effective date above before the change takes effect in the app.
